Program Details

This internship program runs concurrently with your program of study. All necessary tools and supplies are provided. Skills and knowledge received during the program will be applied and reinforced by interacting with our professional team in the field, working closely with our experts (mentors) while being exposed to all aspects of day to day operations for a commercial food equipment service technician.

Cooperative training includes, for example, developing skills in electrical diagnostics, reading of schematic diagrams, mechanical troubleshooting, plumbing and brazing, and customer service.

Upon successful completion of the diploma program and Internship, and upon receiving a recommendation from your primary instructor and internship supervisor, you will be presented with an opportunity for a full-time career as a Hobart Service technician (Level 1). This position comes with a competitive wage and a full benefit program including medical/dental/vision insurance, 401k, paid vacation and holidays.

The Technical Fellowship Program is intended both to assist students with a desire to be successful service technicians, and to expand the variety of perspectives and life experiences among the company’s service technicians. The program includes:
 

  • A fully funded tuition
    • Covers full tuition including any associated fees (textbooks, uniforms, tools, etc.)
    • Paid in installments at the beginning of each term
  • A paid internship with Hobart Service
    • While attending classes to achieve the selected technical diploma, gain practical work experience at Hobart Service
    • A competitive hourly wage
    • Minimum of 20 hours per week
    • Some of the following activities are included in the internship:
      • Work in the branch to be trained on administrative responsibilities (Parts, Dispatching, Invoicing, Safety Processes, etc.)
      • Ride along with service technician and installer to gain full experience of day-to-day responsibilities/ customer experience
      • Scheduled sales ride-along training as well as technician and installer training to gain knowledge on selected product lines
    • All required tools and Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.
  • An opportunity for full employment as a Hobart Service technician
    • With the successful completion of the selected technical diploma program and Hobart Service Internship, a full-time employment offer as a Hobart Service Level 1 Service Technician will be made. This position comes with a competitive wage and a full benefit program.
    • Example of job duties and responsibilities:
      • Install, maintain, and repair commercial food equipment for customers
      • Apply standard operating procedures related to safety
      • Build strong customer relations
      • Stay current on knowledge required to complete jobs effectively

 

To Be Eligible to Apply:
 

  • Entering or actively studying in a relevant, Hobart-approved program (ideally within the first few weeks/months of starting)
    • Examples include but not limited to: HVAC-R; Electronic Technology; Electrical & Electronic Systems
  • Interested in pursuing a long-term career position as a Service Technician in the Food Equipment maintenance industry with Hobart Service once schooling is complete

 

Application Requirements:
 

  • You must desire to enroll in a Hobart Selected Program and must meet the ITW eligibility criteria (listed above).
  • You must submit a completed, signed Fellowship Application.
  • You must include with application a “statement of purpose” or video explaining how receipt of this award will assist you in reaching your educational goals.

 

Internship Requirements:
 

  • You must be available to work part-time for a minimum of 20 hours per week for the span of the internship. This time requisite may be adjusted with changing schedules as dictated by your classroom requirements and designated mentors’ availability.
  • You must have a GED or High school diploma.
  • Applicant must have or be able to acquire a driver’s license within 12 months of beginning the internship program. 
  • You must complete and pass a background check and drug screening.
  • You must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • You must be able to meet the physical demands of the job as listed below:
    • Lifting 75 lbs. with or without assistance
    • Climbing up to 10 ft with ladder (occasional roof access may be necessary)
    • Extensive walking 3-5 miles per day
    • Extensive driving 5-6 hours per day
    • Kneeling, squatting, bending, pushing/pulling
    • Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
    • Operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment, machinery and/or power tools
  • You are expected to work at the Branch or project location.
  • While working, you’ll be considered a full-time student and should retain your own health and welfare benefits such as health insurance. You will not be offered benefits through ITW’s employee benefit program. Benefits such as vacation days, paid holidays, sick days, will not be provided as part of the internship program.

 

Application and Award Details:
 

  1. ITW/Hobart Service will review applications and accompanying documentation after the application deadline and will make decisions for eligibility based on the program criteria and requirements.
  2. The Fellowship amount will be determined based on documented financial need and shall not exceed the maximum award per student established by the program. Along with the completed application and other required documents, students must provide a copy of their student Invoice, indicating balance due. Funds awarded to the recipient, but not needed for the upcoming semester will remain in the student account for two subsequent terms.  If not used during this time, those funds will be returned to the original Fellowship Fund.
  3. If a student is accepted into the program, but either leaves the college or drops out of class, the remaining unused program funds will be returned to the participating school and deposited into the Fellowship Fund. Students who leave the participating school will be dismissed from the Fellowship Program. 
  4. Students who are dismissed from the Fellowship Program will no longer be a recipient of program funding or support but may continue with their college coursework.
